Jekyll markdown nofollow links

18 Aug 2016

Is your link juice pouring all over the place? Wondering how to make your Jekyll markdown links nofollow? So was I. Luckily it’s a simple fix. Add {:rel=”nofollow”} to the end of your markdown links.

Simples.

[Google](https://www.google.com/){:rel="nofollow"}

BONUS TIP:

You can add any attribute to a link in markdown using the same method.

{:target="_blank"} // Opens link in new window

EXTRA BONUS TIP:

(Learnt in the process of writing this post)

If you want to escape markdown syntax to write about markdown syntax, then you need to add the tags:

{% highlight html %}
[Google](https://www.google.com/){:rel="nofollow"}
{% endhighlight %}

And if you want to escape markdown syntax to write about writing about markdown syntax, then you will go insane, so don’t do it.
